Stefan Klokgieters

Stefan joined Studyportals back in 2013 as the first full-time Front-end Developer on the team. What started with building the student-facing parts of our portals has grown into a decade-long journey across almost every corner of our engineering landscape.

After finishing his Bachelor in ICT Media & Design at Fontys Eindhoven, Stefan worked at a local ICT company as a Web Designer, touching everything from design and implementation to customer support and SEO. That mix of creativity and pragmatism still shows in his work today. 

Now, Stefan is Head of Engineering at Studyportals. He leads our Product Engineering organisation and is responsible for the overall software delivery, quality, and the growth of the people behind it. He spends most of his time shaping technical strategy, improving how we build products, and making sure teams stay motivated, focused, and proud of what they deliver. People come first – because without happy, driven teams, nothing great gets built. 

He’s passionate about building fast, user-focused products, creating an engineering culture that values quality, and coaching teams to become better every day. He loves turning ideas into real, tangible things that students around the world use. 

Outside of work, Stefan is usually found outdoors with his family, watching movies, or hunting down collectibles – especially comic-related memorabilia (yes, the geeky stuff), Trading Cards and other things that pique his interest. He’s also into plants, taking photos, and practices kickboxing to stay balanced. 

Always learning, always experimenting, always trying to make things a little better than yesterday. Trying to leave the world behind a little bit better day-by-day.
