[NEW REPORT] Student subject choice trends: Shifts in global student interest across academic disciplines, 2019–2026

Over the past seven years, students have been making a quiet but consistent shift in what they choose to study. Demand for AI, Cyber Security, and Data Science has grown sharply — but so has interest in Philosophy and Literature. The pattern across very different fields points to the same thing: students are moving away from broad, general programmes and toward ones that feel specific and grounded. Whether that means a degree in Machine Learning or one in Classical Studies, they seem to be looking for the same thing: a clear reason why this programme, and not just any degree.
