PIEoneer Awards Studyportals 2018 BestFIt Digital Innovation of the Year

Eindhoven, 11 September 2018 – Studyportals is honoured to announce receiving the “Digital Innovation Award of the Year” in the technology section at the PIEoneer Awards ceremony that took place in London on 7 September 2018.

Studyportals received the award for its Best Fit innovation, which allows students to calculate their success potential regarding applying for a particular university and study programme. The Best Fit tool takes the guesswork out of choosing which education institutions to research when looking for the right international study options. The tool currently impacts over 1M prospective students per year and growing.

Celia Felipe, Product Director at Studyportals commented on the awards:

We are thrilled to receive the recognition by industry leaders for delivering on our vision to make the best quality fit between students and universities. Fundamentally, we believe that understanding the characteristics of students and studies that determine ‘fit’: the probability that the student will be successful, graduate and reach her/his goals within the programme, is our most important role.

This is already a great accomplishment and we know that we are only at the beginning of the journey with our Best Fit technology. This award is an extra motivator for the teams to deliver an outstanding product that will help students find the study that fits them best. It is great to have this confirmation of our efforts and see that we are on the right track!

The Best Fit tool is based on assessing four essential aspects that determine a student’s final study-related decision: academic, financial, personal and professional. The academic component is fully developed and includes factors such as a student’s academic level and past experience, field of study, work experience and language skills. The budget fit component is also fully developed and takes into account a student’s budget in relation to tuition fees and living costs. The other two components, personal fit and career fit are currently being developed. For the personal fit, the tool will include factors such as the international orientation of the university, location safety, culture, healthcare availability, happiness index, visa regimes, while the career fit will include graduate work permit information, university reputation and employment opportunities.

In the long-term, the Best Fit tool aims to dive deeper into a student’s full spectrum of circumstances that lead to them fitting or not with a specific study programme and university.
