Studyportals supports Goodfellow Foundation

Since 2016, Studyportals is glad to support another great social initiative, started by our dear colleague Julie: the Goodfellow foundation.

Currently, we are supporting two excellent female Philippine students with their Bachelor studies: Mary Jane and Cynthia. Mary Jane and Cynthia are already halfway through their first year at University. While they are grateful and happy to attend University, they also have to face the common obstacles in the Philippines that often call for class cancellations: Typhoons.

Nevertheless, we are more than proud that both have completed their first semester with distinction while also enjoying their time outside their academic studies.

Meet Mary Jane and Cynthia

Mary Jane is the eldest of five children, currently living in Bagong Pook, Cavite City, one of the poorest areas in the city.

Her father is a jeepney driver earning a maximum of 300Php (€6) a day, which is fairly enough to cover the costs of living for the family. Mary Jane’s mother is a housewife, taking care of the family. She is currently studying for a Bachelor of Science in Marketing Management at Cavite State University.

Cynthia graduated from high school in 2012. Her parents are both farmers in a remote area of Pangasinan.

She travelled to Manila and ended up in Cavite City to start working as a housekeeper and nanny to support her family back in the province. Cynthia has been an outstanding student in high school and her dream is to become a teacher in the future. Cynthia is obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education at the same University as Mary Jane.

What’s next?

The second semester has started on 9th January and our scholars are very excited to take up the challenge of the second half of the year. As studying unfortunately often stays a dream for many young people with similar backgrounds, we are more than happy to be able to support Mary Jane and Cynthia for the coming 3 years with their University studies, covering expenses such as tuition fees, school uniform, projects and other school-related activities and following them on their (education) journey.

At Studyportals, we strongly believe that education without boundaries enriches lives and connects our world. This makes us extremely proud of our colleague’s effort to make the world a better place.
